Court Visit
On the 6th of Sept, Wednesday, us pre-law students went for a visit to the Shah Alam Court, u know just to check out what is it like in court and what lawyers actually do. To tell you the truth, after this visit, i can almost confirm with you, i am sooooo NOT going to be a lawyer anymore. Life in court is pretty boring, but this maybe because we were'nt at the High Court, where all the real action takes place. It certaintly did not live up to my expectations, but i kinda expected it to be a little subdued because Chao Ying and Por Hai told us before hand that it will be boring there..
My group, we went into 2 courtrooms, the first is errrr... i think her name is Dr M or something like that, she's the malay judge without tudung. Her court was dealing with something that got to do with the patent act...the only exciting thing that occured here was when the judge got a little upset when one of the defendants, this chinese boy, really young, probably in his early 20s did not turn up with his solicitor, and got a sounding from the judge, well not a real sounding, but you could tell that the judge was not please with something.
Then we entered another courtroom, and jugde is Lord Wong (errr...do u use Lord in M'sia??... not too sure bout that)...we were really excited because it was quite crowded in this court..as in the part where all the lawyers and councils sit..yeahh..it was quite full there..so we though.."yay...finally were gonna witness a trial"... and when the Jugde entered, and when the proceedings started, we soon realised...maybe were not soo lucky again...They were doing something like an EAH (Early Administrative Hearing)...u know...postponing the case to a later date and stuff...again the only exciting part was when the judge got pissed off at the errr i forgot..plaintiff or defendant, which ever that did not turn up with a lawyer..haha..but this time it was better..cos the opposing party's lawyer was u know complaining to the judge about having to post-pone the case again for the 3rd time... wasting time, and want to settle the case as soon as possible...all those stuff...Should have seen the other guys face man (the party that did not turn up with his lawyer)...its not his fault that the lawyer was not present, he was just a representative from his company, sent into the court room to get sounding from the judge..Can't quite remember what the company name was..but it sure is one company that don't take this legal action seriously...the judge was like, there's no witness present, directors are not here, even the managers are not here...U all don't have respect for the court...
Yeah after that there was another case, they were actually trying it there and then...but it was'nt fun..something about some missing or malfunction parts in a machine...
Then after that we went and gathered at some other courtroom with the rest...and it was time to cam-whore...hehehe...this was probbly the funnest part of the whole visit...overall it was quite boring...obviously there's no action like the one that you see in the movies, like The Practice and all...oh well...at least i know now that i do not want to spend my life in the courtroom..hehe
